Summer

I can hardly believe it's almost the middle of June! Summer is officially here in Oklahoma...with the wonderful humidity and all. We have spent quite a few days out at the pool lately. Spencer is still warming up to the pool. He likes playing in shallow water, but if you try to take him any further than what he can stand up in he's never too happy. I bought him some floaties and an inner tube for him to sit in but those didn't go over so well. Any time a floatie got near him he would start screaming and push it away. I was carrying him inside and had him in one arm and the inner tube in another. The inner tube happened to be touching him and he kept screaming until I moved it! It's slightly ridiculous, but I'm sure he'll warm up to them someday. He does love the slide though.

Daddy taking Spencer down the slide.

His face may not show it, but he's actually having a great time.

Spencer is growing and getting so big. I know I probably say that every post, but he grows fast. Too fast really. He is now 20 months old. He is starting to say a few more words. Aunt Jenny taught him how to say "nay nay" (which is baby talk for Jenny) and he says it everytime she asks him what her name is. Of course he also says it anytime anyone else asks him what their name is. So we'll have to work on that. He loves to sing the wheels on the bus and is so good at "the babies on the bus go wah wah wah". He says wah wah wah and rubs his eyes. I'll have to get it on video one of these days. Its pretty funny.

Spencer loves his teddy bear.

He also loves this truck he got for Christmas. Lately whenever he has it he will not let me take it away...which is why it's on the table with him while he eats his breakfast. But he has been doing that with just about everything. If I start putting toys away, sometimes toys he isn't even playing with, he will come over and grab them and start saying "no no no no". No is by far his favorite word right now. :)

Mommy and Spencer.

As I have mentioned before Spencer is really into trains. Here he is making the train noise.

And this video...well, this is what we in the Burkinshaw family call the chicken walk. My brothers used to do this to Sarah quite frequently when she was a child and would wear overalls. I suppose she feels a need to pass it on to her nieces and nephews. Spencer actually thought it was pretty funny. Whenever she would stop he would pull his shorts up and try to do it to himself. So this video is for posterity really. I suppose one day we will have a video of Spencer doing this to one of his younger siblings. :)

At the very end of this video you can hear the first nay in "nay nay". My camera ran out of memory so I didn't get all of it. But I thought it was funny that Spence thought I was taking a picture so he kept saying "cheese!" It reminds me of my niece Grace. She used to always say cheese and scrunch up her eyes too. And really I'm not sure when he started saying cheese during pictures. I'm pretty sure I never taught him that. It's funny what kids pick up on!

What a cutie! I wish I could get Devin to smile and say cheese for the camera! And I don't think I ever realized what a blondie Spencer is. Just like Devin!
